The Deco on Chestnut is a six-story, design-forward multifamily development proposed for the corner of Van Ness Avenue and Chestnut Street in San Francisco’s Marina District. Created as the culminating project for my Master of Real Estate Development + Design capstone at UC Berkeley, the proposal transforms an underutilized Motel 6 site into a 42-unit residential building featuring a tropical Art Deco-inspired design, rooftop amenities, and below-grade parking. Leveraging SB 423 and the State Density Bonus Law to streamline entitlements, the project delivers much-needed housing in a high-demand, transit-rich neighborhood. The Deco on Chestnut was honored with the program’s Capstone Honors Award in recognition of its thoughtful design, development feasibility, and alignment with community context.
